Welcome to Tylerton

Welcome to Tylerton

The welcome sign at the dock in Tylerton, Smith Island, Md fits this week’s challenge from Cee is “Graffiti & Murals“. Tylerton is a small community on one of the islands in the “archipelago” on the Maryland/Virginia border on the Chesapeake Bay. The permanent population Tylerton is around 50, mostly ‘watermen’, fishing and crabbing are the main (only) industry on the small island. Visitors vacationing on the island have little choices of activities, walking and bicycling the one mile, or so, of roads. Situated about 12 miles off shore of Chrisfield the only way to reach Smith Island is by boat. Two other islands make up Smith, but getting to them from Tyleron is by kayaking about 2 miles or taking the Jason II to Ewell.
