New Years – walking to the Woods

Only a couple more steps and dinner would be ready. The chicken broth and Marsala were ready to add to the mushrooms and onions that had been sauteing for a while. The aroma of the chicken, near perfection. Pasta was done, and Brussel Sprouts cooked in the oven were ready to be plated. Dinner was ready.

After he’d eaten he checked the clock, “Great, I have time to walk to the neighborhood movie house. Tonight’s showing was ‘Walk in the Woods’.” He’d read the book many years ago when it first was first published, now he wanted to see what the Appalachian Trail looked like.

“Not bad” he thought as he left the theater, “too bad it hadn’t been better attended.” When he got to the street for the walk home, only a lone bicyclist was out. Everybody else must have been at New Years parties. He’d wake up tomorrow morning with a clear head.

Friday Fictioneers by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields challenges writers, or wannabe writers to create a 100 word story based on a photo prompt each week.
Here’s my entry for December 30, 2016
