What’s Up There?

New Year’s day dawned with a few clouds in the sky and the hiking club scheduled it’s annual “Start The Year Right” hike. This one wouldn’t be a long one, only 4 miles or so, and not very fast either. The route was only part-way around a lake. Almost to the turn-around the hikers heard the calling of Barred Owls, the could identify what seemed like 4 or five, but back across the lake, back where they started.

They’d seen a bunch of photographers that started earlier, but were on their way back. So when the club was about half way back to their cars they were surprised to see them once more. What were they watching? Who was watching Who?

This week, for New Year’s day Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie issued a bunch of challenges. I chose Flash Five: Pot Luck: Choose a photo (yours or someone else’s – give accreditation) and write a piece of flash fiction 75 to 200 words based on the photo. It’s not all fiction, but just sort of. The photo is by Mike Vore
