The End, The Beginning

5-fof-img_20160728_1340549972Clementine anxiously waited for the 5:40 out of the city, wondering if he would be on board. It would be the last time she would meet him here. It’d been almost three years since they first met here. After this evening’s train the station would be abandoned, the train would no longer stop here, in fact the entire rail line would be abandoned. The town just couldn’t support the line any more, and the population was losing two residents over the weekend.

The whole town, all two dozen, were waiting behind Clementine setting up for a the big event. The town mayor and chief of police tried to control the crowd, but the excitement made the job almost impossible.

As he alighted from the train, Clementine rushed forward, followed by the Pastor. Stopping on the platform the wedding began, and the crowd cheered. Tomorrow they would be leaving on their honeymoon and moving to ‘the big city’.

It’s Finish off Fridays (FoF) time again – the flash fiction writing prompt that alternates with Sanaa’s Friday Music Prompt.

I provide the picture and the opening sentence, you write an additional 100 to 150 words to complete the story.

One Response to The End, The Beginning

  1. Lorraine says:

Wonderful story — sad but true of abandoned rail-lines, abandoned train stations, abandoned lives. For Clementine and her beau — what a happy ending and a wedding at just the right time and spot.
    Thanks for participating.
