Clementine anxiously waited for the 5:40 out of the city, wondering if he would be on board. It would be the last time she would meet him here. It’d been almost three years since they first met here. After this evening’s train the station would be abandoned, the train would no longer stop here, in fact the entire rail line would be abandoned. The town just couldn’t support the line any more, and the population was losing two residents over the weekend.
The whole town, all two dozen, were waiting behind Clementine setting up for a the big event. The town mayor and chief of police tried to control the crowd, but the excitement made the job almost impossible.
As he alighted from the train, Clementine rushed forward, followed by the Pastor. Stopping on the platform the wedding began, and the crowd cheered. Tomorrow they would be leaving on their honeymoon and moving to ‘the big city’.
