Where Can I Find A Wheelbarrow

For Sunday Photo Fiction – April 23rd 2017 Each week a photo is used, donated by one of the participants of Sunday Photo Fiction, and the idea is to write a story with the photo as a prompt in around 200 words.

In The Hardware Store

“Yes sir, What can I help you find today?”

The customer answered, “I’m looking for a good wheelbarrow.” as he sized up the youngster trying to help. His thoughts ran like, ‘I don’t even think he looks old enough to shave.’

“Sure enough, Here’s a beauty.” The salesman replied, sounding more like a used car salesman. “First, you have your choice of 32 colors, made of lightweight, but extra strong space-age plastic. It’s even got hydraulic hand brakes and a safety feature so it won’t get away from you going downhill. What’s you think, what color do you want?”

“Well, sonny,” the customer replied, “What I’m looking for is what my dad, and grand-dad had before that, one made of wood. They had good features, like removable sides so I could carry long tree limbs if needed, or use as a sort-of workbench out in the field. I don’t need or want a wash-tub on wheels. Now let’s go look at them.”

“I don’t think anyone make them anymore, probably you’ll have to build your own, we do have wheels and handles.”

“Good, where are they. Building one will be lots more satisfying.” replied the customer with a smile.
