Heeding Haiku With Chèvrefeuille, August 9th 2017
Welcome at a new episode of Heeding Haiku With … and today I have a nice theme to create haiku with.
Today our theme is WAVES …. and of course you can use the image to trigger your muse.
Climbing in the wave
Nothing disturbs the pilot
Mountain far below.
Note: When the wind blows across a mountain it is pushed upwards, much like flowing water as it encounters submerged rocks. When the weather conditions are right sailplane pilots will soar effortlessly in these waves, much like a surfer riding the front edge of an ocean-wave. Sometimes reaching altitudes of several thousands of feet, world record altitude flights have reached over 30,000 feet. Occasionally lens shaped clouds appear parallel to mountain ranges, showing that high altitude waves are present. I remember one flight when I climbed over 9,000′ in a wave, limited only because I was not carrying oxygen.
